Community Outreach — Wesleyville Valleyfield Pastoral Charge

Serving New-Wes-Valley with Love

The Wesleyville Valleyfield Pastoral Charge believes that faith is not only expressed in Sunday worship but in everyday acts of kindness, justice, and service. As a congregation rooted in the Social Gospel tradition of the United Church of Canada, we are called to engage actively with the needs of our communities — to feed the hungry, support the vulnerable, care for creation, and work toward a more just and compassionate world.

Our outreach efforts are carried out in partnership with local organizations, other faith communities, and most importantly, our neighbours — the people of New-Wes-Valley who make these communities home.

Our Outreach Initiatives

Food Security Programs

We partner with local organizations to support families facing food insecurity in New-Wes-Valley. Seasonal food drives and hamper programs — particularly at Christmas and Easter — ensure that our neighbours have what they need to celebrate and thrive.

Emergency Support & Coordination

When emergencies arise in our communities, we mobilize to assist. From coordinating support networks after unexpected crises to connecting individuals with government and non-governmental services, we stand ready to help in difficult times.

Ecumenical Collaboration

We believe the church is stronger together. The Wesleyville Valleyfield Pastoral Charge actively collaborates with other faith communities in New-Wes-Valley, joining in shared worship, community service projects, and dialogue that honours our common humanity and shared calling.

Environmental Stewardship

As stewards of creation, we embrace the United Church of Canada’s commitment to environmental responsibility. We encourage sustainable practices within our congregation and support initiatives that care for the natural beauty of coastal Newfoundland we call home.

Partnership with Local Schools

We support educational initiatives and programs for children and youth in our communities. By partnering with local schools, we help nurture the next generation and create bridges between faith community and broader civic life in New-Wes-Valley.

Seniors’ Home Outreach

We extend our care beyond our congregation walls by visiting residents in local long-term care facilities. Regular visits, music sharing, and seasonal celebrations bring joy and connection to seniors who may otherwise feel isolated from community life.

Seasonal Community Events

Christmas Hamper Program

Each December, our congregation organizes a Christmas hamper program to ensure families in New-Wes-Valley have food, warmth, and a sense of dignity during the holiday season. Hampers are assembled and distributed with care and confidentiality.

Easter Community Breakfast

On Easter morning, we host a community breakfast open to all, welcoming neighbours of every faith and background to share in the joy of the season over a warm meal and good conversation.

Spring & Fall Clean-Up Days

Twice a year, congregation volunteers join together to beautify our church grounds and contribute to neighbourhood clean-up efforts — a simple, tangible act of care for the communities we love.

Community Remembrance Day

We host and participate in Remembrance Day observances honouring those from our communities who served in Canada’s military. A solemn and deeply meaningful occasion for New-Wes-Valley families.
