About Us — Wesleyville Valleyfield Pastoral Charge

Who We Are

The Wesleyville Valleyfield Pastoral Charge is a congregation of the United Church of Canada serving eight coastal communities in the New-Wes-Valley region of Newfoundland and Labrador. We gather to worship, to care for one another, and to serve our broader community with compassion and faith.

Our pastoral charge unites the communities of Wesleyville, Valleyfield, and surrounding areas along the scenic shores of Bonavista Bay. From our roots in 19th-century Methodism to our present-day ministry, we have remained a steadfast presence through every season of community life — celebrating births and marriages, mourning losses, and walking alongside our neighbours in all that life brings.

We are a congregation where all are truly welcome: people of every age, background, and stage of faith. Our doors are open, our hearts are warm, and our table has room for everyone.

United Church of Canada

We are a proud member congregation of the United Church of Canada, the country’s largest Protestant denomination. Formed in 1925 through the union of Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregationalist traditions, the United Church is committed to an open, affirming, and socially engaged faith.

The United Church believes in the dignity and worth of every person, the importance of justice and peace in the world, and the transforming power of God’s love. As a congregation, these convictions shape our worship, our programs, and our outreach in New-Wes-Valley.

We are part of the First Dawn Eastern Edge Regional Council, connecting us with fellow United Church congregations across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Communities We Serve

The Wesleyville Valleyfield Pastoral Charge is woven into the fabric of New-Wes-Valley.

Our pastoral charge serves eight communities nestled along the shores of Bonavista Bay in Newfoundland and Labrador. These communities — including Wesleyville, Valleyfield, and their neighbouring settlements — share a common heritage of fishing, resilience, and deep faith.

The people of New-Wes-Valley have built their lives at the intersection of land and sea, and our congregation reflects that same spirit: grounded, steadfast, and always oriented toward one another. We are neighbours who become family, and strangers who find belonging.

From Sunday mornings filled with hymns to midweek conversations over a cup of tea, the life of our pastoral charge is lived in these communities every day. We are honoured to serve them.
